Kemar Mitchell scored a hat-trick as Jamaica’s men thrashed Guatemala seven nil in Friday morning rescheduled fixture in the CAC Games qualifiers at the JN Hockey Field. The win sealed Jamaica’s spot in Sunday’s final against Guyana and automatic qualification to next year’s CAC Games in Colombia.
Jamaica is now level on points with the already qualified Guyana who leads the standing by virtue of scoring more goals.
Jamaica took the lead as early as the third minute when Onuque Salmon scored from close range for his first international goal. Kemar Mitchell doubled the host lead in the 24th as Jamaica went into the half time break with a two nil lead.
The Guatemalans started the second half on the front foot earning three penalty corners in quick succession that they fail to convert from. Kishawn White who was making his 50th appearance for Jamaica marked the occasion with a goal in the 35thminute after he pounced on a rebound from a penalty corner shot by Kemar Mitchell.
The Jamaican’s took a stranglehold on the game for the remainder of the second half as the Guatemalans failed to deal with their pace and attacking prowess.
Mitchell got Jamaica’s fourth and his second of the game from a penalty corner in the 40th minute, Mitchell completed his hat-trick in the 53rd minute.
Brandon Clarke in the 44th minute and Charles Burton in the 52nd round off the scoring for the Jamaicans
Jamaica will complete their preliminary round fixture tomorrow @ 4pm against Guyana in a dress rehearsal for the final.
