Jamaica’s women turned on the styles against their Guatemalan counterpart thrashing them by six goals to nil in the final game of CAC Qualifiers in day one action. The JN Hockey field was brought to its feet in the 7th minute when Demi Nicholson put the host in front from the penalty spot. Despite Jamaica’s dominance it was only 1 nil at the end of the first quarter.
It took some enterprising play from and a precise and defence splitting pass from Ebony McLean in the 24th minute that found Krystal Holgate, who delivered the intricate touch that was needed to send team Jamaica two nil up.
Shareeka Elliott added Jamaica’s third in the 26th minute from a penalty corner. Krystal Holgate returned the favour in the 50th minute when she turned provider for Ebony McLean who calmly slotted home from close range for Jamaica’s fourth. The Guatemalans offered to Jamaica’s fluent attack as Kamille Griffiths latched on to a pass from debutant Jonel Witter on top of the D before displaying some attractive skills then letting lose a thunderous shot that left goal keeper Norma Quevedo marooned by what had just transpired.
Shana-Kay Tullongue rounded off the scoring a minute before full time when she found herself on the receiving end of a beautiful pass from Demi Nicholson.
The Jamaicans will next be action on Monday @ 4:30 against Panama, with Guatemala playing Bermuda in a 2:30 fixture.
